Leaving the family policy – your own plan

"Policy" is another name for insurance contract. Children are usually insured under their parent’s contract. If you or your parents request it, you can be transferred from the family policy and given your own individual insurance contract.

 

From Family to Jump

If you were previously insured under your parent’s Family supplementary insurance plan, you’ll be transferred to the Jump supplementary insurance plan when you turn 20. Jump is the supplementary insurance plan for young adults aged between 19 and 25.

  • Emergency outpatient treatment abroad
  • Alternative medicine, maternity, uninsured drugs, glasses and contact lenses
  • Gynaecological check-ups
  • Medical check-ups, vaccinations
  • Contribution to fitness centre membership
  • If your circumstances change, you can switch to the Classic supplementary outpatient insurance plan or, if you’re starting a family, the Family insurance plan without a medical exam.
  • Bonus: CHF 50 for each year without a claim on your Jump and mandatory basic insurance

From Family to Classic

If you had your own insurance policy before you turned 19, you’ll be transferred from Family to Classic. For example, if your parents switch you to your own policy earlier or if you want to have a separate policy. Classic is the supplementary insurance for singles and couples.

  • Emergency outpatient treatment abroad
  • Alternative medicine, maternity, uninsured drugs, medical aids, dental braces, glasses and contact lenses
  • Gynaecological check-ups
  • Regular medical check-ups, vaccinations
  • Contribution to fitness centre membership
  • If your circumstances change (e.g. if you start a family), you can switch to the Family supplementary outpatient insurance plan without a medical exam.

Keep track of your insurance affairs – with the Sanitas customer portal   

Under Family supplementary insurance, the head of family is the only one with access to the Sanitas customer portal. As soon as you have your own policy, you can register for the portal yourself. The customer portal helps you keep constant track of your insurance affairs.
