Data capture when visiting Sanitas web pages

Sanitas web pages may be visited without providing any personal data. However, impersonal access and log file data will be created and saved on Sanitas, Google and Adobe Systems servers.

It is up to visitors to decide whether they wish to leave further personal information on Sanitas web pages, for example telephone numbers, addresses, email addresses, postal address, etc. If they do so, this data will be stored exclusively in Sanitas’s IT systems, treated confidentially and never passed on to third parties.

Sanitas uses a web analysis service from Adobe and Google to analyse use of the website. Cookies (text files) stored on the internet user’s computer are used for this purpose. Sanitas uses this internal web analysis service to evaluate individual website usage. This data is then used to compile reports on website activities and deliver other services relating to website and Internet usage, e.g. for customised marketing  (retargeting). Users can prevent cookies from being stored or JavaScript from being executed by adjusting their browser software settings. As a result, they may not be able to use all the functions of the website in full.

Sanitas collects and saves session and interaction data of website users and from online surveys. This information is used to improve the content and user friendliness of the web pages. Cookies can also be used for this purpose.

Purpose of data capture

Sanitas uses two web analytics systems to analyse website use: Google Analytics and Adobe SiteCatalyst. No data of a personal or sensitive nature is stored at individual user level during this process. Sanitas uses this anonymous and aggregated data for internal analysis and reporting purposes and continued improvement of website content for users.

Data security on Sanitas web pages

Confidential, personal data sent online to Sanitas via forms and the premium calculator on is transmitted in encrypted form, and cannot be viewed by third parties. Customer information is stored in databases, some of which are run by partners of Sanitas. These partners are fully subject to the relevant data protection legislation and are not authorised to make further use of these data in any form.

Normal emails

Normal emails sent to Sanitas are not encrypted.

Sanitas expressly draws attention to the fact that using normal emails to send unencrypted data is neither secure nor a suitable way of sending personal or other confidential data.

If visitors send personal information by email without appropriate protection, they should be aware that unauthorised third parties could access this information and thus gather, use or even falsify data without their consent. Further, under certain circumstances personal data sent by email may be transmitted via a provider abroad, even though the sender and receiver are located in Switzerland. You should therefore take account of the fact that your personal data could also be transferred to a country with less stringent data protection standards than Switzerland.

If, despite this, someone contacts Sanitas or makes enquiries by unencrypted email, Sanitas will assume that the customer explicitly desires this form of communication. By contacting Sanitas or making enquiries by unencrypted email, customers consent to Sanitas also replying or providing the information requested by unencrypted email.

Data privacy

Sanitas attaches great importance to data privacy. Customer data is treated in absolute confidence, and is processed in accordance with the applicable data privacy rules. Data received via the internet will be used by Sanitas only for the desired purposes, and will not be passed on to third parties. However, Sanitas reserves the right to evaluate data sent to it anonymously for statistical purposes or use it within the Sanitas Group for marketing purposes. Anyone not wishing this can notify Sanitas accordingly.

The rules governing data processing at Sanitas can be found under this link.

For questions on the processing of personal data or to request information, please contact the data privacy officers of Sanitas by post and enclose a copy of a valid form of ID.
