Data privacy rules regarding the Sanitas maternity services

Sanitas Privatversicherungen AG (hereinafter “Sanitas” or “we”) attaches great importance to data privacy and data security in all its business processes.


1 Scope of application

The data privacy rules regarding the Sanitas maternity services (hereinafter “data privacy rules”) define what personal data and benefits information (hereinafter “data”) can be processed in conjunction with the Sanitas maternity services (hereinafter “maternity services”).


2 Data processing

Data processing refers to any operation with your data, including but not limited to collection, recording, administration, use, editing, storage, amendment, archiving, transfer, disclosure, anonymisation and deletion.

You explicitly consent to us processing your data when you register for the maternity services.


3 Owner of the data collection

Owner of the data collection is Sanitas Privatversicherungen AG, Jägerstrasse 3, P.O. Box 2010, 8021 Zurich.


4 Data collection

The data collection includes data that you make available to Sanitas as well as data that is recorded automatically or manually during any contact with Sanitas. Data is collected in the following circumstances including, but not limited to:

  • Registration for the maternity services;
  • Subscription to a newsletter or other advertising;
  • Participation in competitions or prize draws;
  • Participation in Sanitas market research or opinion polls.

5 Types of data

Data includes but is not limited to the following types of data: surname and first name; date of birth and age; gender; address; nationality; usage patterns; language preferences; phone number(s); email address(es); ID numbers of technical devices used; customer number; information on subscribed newsletters or advertising received; consent for receipt of advertising; consent for profile generation; consent for receipt of notifications; expected date of birth of unborn child; stage of family planning and week of pregnancy; session data with reference to visits to Sanitas websites (including duration and frequency of visits, language and country settings, information on the browser and computer operating system, internet protocol addresses, search terms and search results, evaluations submitted); information viewed via online channels (e.g. email, Web); any form of communication with us via phone, email, voice messaging, text messaging (mobile phone, push notifications, etc.), picture messaging (MMS), video messaging or instant messaging.


6 Purpose of data processing

Your data can be processed for various purposes. It can be processed partially or in full for one or more of the following purposes. Processing purposes include, but are not limited to, the following categories:

Customer communication

  • Provision, administration and execution of customer communication by electronic modes of communication
  • Business communication by telephone, email, voice messaging, text messaging (mobile, push notifications, etc.), picture messaging (MMS), video messaging or instant messaging
  • Evaluation of product and service usage by telephone, fax, email, voice messaging, text messaging (mobile, push notifications, etc.), picture messaging (MMS) or instant messaging. These evaluations include the type of use, frequency and duration of use, and exact location of use.

Analysis of user behaviour

  • Optimisation of support in the course of pregnancy and  the Sanitas maternity services by means ofindividualised and personal or anonymous and group-related recording and evaluation of past and current user behaviour;
  • Individualised and personal or anonymous and group-related identification, classification and analysis ofcurrent and potential user requirements and user interests;
  • Individualised and personal or anonymous and group-related classification and analysis of user potential;
  • Statistical evaluation of customer behaviour based on anonymous user data;
  • Linking and enriching of the personal data collected by us with personal and non-personal data that is publicly accessible or acquired from third parties for the purpose of improving our database and analysing user behaviour. Enriching of profiles by means of data from third parties, including data from the Swiss Federal Statistical Office, calendar data, socio-demographic data, publicly accessible data from social networks or geodata.

Direct marketing

  • Simplification of processes and use of findings from the analysis of user behaviour for the ongoing improvement of the Sanitas maternity services;
  • Avoidance of unnecessary advertising by using findings from the analysis of user behaviour for customised and personalised direct marketing;
  • Mailing of customised and personalised advertising by post, telephone, fax, email, voice messaging, text messaging (mobile, push notifications, etc.), picture messaging (MMS), video messaging or instant messaging;
  • Customisation and personalisation of the maternityservices and advertising through our channels on multimedia portals and social networks.

7 Forwarding of data

Sanitas can pass on your data to other companies within the Sanitas Group for the purposes set out in these data privacy rules and for other purposes. We can also pass on your data in order to comply with applicable laws and regulations; in the event of legal proceedings; at the request of relevant courts and authorities or in other cases in which it is deemed necessary by Sanitas owing to other legal reasons or obligations in order to protect and defend its rights or property.


8 Third-party websites

The Sanitas maternity services and any associated communication (e.g. emails) may contain links to third-party websites. Sanitas has no influence on the information and services on third-party websites. Nor do we have any influence on how third parties handle the personal data collected on their websites. Sanitas is not responsible for complying with data protection and other applicable laws with regard to third-party links on Sanitas websites, in Sanitas communication or in conjunction with the Sanitas maternity services.


9 Protection of your data

We have all the requisite technical and organisational precautions in place to protect your data against unauthorised access and processing. These precautions are checked regularly and adjusted in line with advances in technology.


10 Amendment of these data privacy rules

We reserve the right to amend or change these data privacy rules at any time. If you do not object to these changes and/or amendments within 30 calendar days or if you remain a customer of the Sanitas maternity services after the changes and/or amendments have been implemented, the new data privacy rules will be deemed to have been accepted.


11  Right to data privacy

You are entitled at all times to assert your right to data privacy and to demand information on any of your data that Sanitas has stored and processed. You also have the right to amend or add to your data, to object to the processing of your data or to request that your data be deleted. To assert your right to data privacy, for questions on data processing or to request information, please contact the data privacy officers of Sanitas by post and enclose a copy of a valid form of ID.
