Coconut – For kids

As well as a hard shell and healthy flesh, coconuts also have delicious coconut water. It contains vitamins B and C, which are great for the immune system, plus important minerals and trace elements.

The flesh is particularly nutritious because it contains a high proportion of oil.

It’s not easy to harvest coconuts, often requiring hard manual labour.
Sani shows you how the harvest works.

Opening a coconut requires skill.
First you use a tool to make a hole in the top and bottom of the shell.

Then you tap the nut carefully with a hammer or something similar until small cracks begin to appear.

When the cracks are big enough you can break the coconut open.
