Sani’s campfire bread

Have you built up an appetite while exploring the forest? Sani shows you how to make your own campfire bread to cook outdoors.

Makes around 20

For the dough:

  • 1 kg plain flour
  • 2½–3 tsp salt
  • 20 g fresh yeast
  • Approx. 6 dl water
  • Optional: you can add chocolate, bacon or other tasty ingredients according to taste.

Search for thick sticks in the forest to twist the dough around in a snake shape.

1st step

Place the flour, salt and your chosen ingredients (e.g. chocolate, bacon) in a bowl, mix, and create a hollow in the middle.

Crumble the yeast and dissolve it in1/2 dl of water and pour into the hollow. Use the flour around the hollow to make a thick paste. Leave to stand for around 15 minutes.

2nd step

Add the rest of the water, knead to form a smooth dough.

Cover and leave to rise at room temperature for at least 1 hour until it doubles in size.

3rd step

Divide the dough into 20 portions and roll them into long snake shapes. Twist each portion around a stick. Don’t make the dough too thick, because it won’t cook in the middle.

Depending on the size of your twists, cook them over the fire for 10-20 minutes.
