Nutrition during pregnancy

A healthy and balanced diet is important for the development of the unborn child. Particularly from the second trimester, expectant mothers should concentrate on boosting their calorie intake.

As the baby grows, many expectant mothers wonder if they need additional calories for their unborn child to develop healthily. Mums-to-be do need to up their calorie intake from the second trimester, because the baby grows quickly during this period and gains a lot of weight. However, they don’t need to eat for two, because the energy requirements increase only slightly. From the 4th month of pregnancy, women need to consume around 250 calories more. It’s better to eat more healthily instead of simply eating more. Eating a varied and balanced diet during pregnancy will ensure that mums-to-be get enough vitamins and minerals. Healthy snacks between meals will help cover the increased energy requirements.
