Data privacy policy, legal information and data security
This data privacy policy explains how Sanitas collects, uses, forwards and discloses (hereinafter summarised under the term “processes”) the personal user data of visitors to this website (hereinafter “users”) and how this is done. The data privacy policy also explains how Sanitas secures the personal data processed and contains further legal information.
The user agrees that Sanitas may process personal data in accordance with the data privacy policy. This policy does not affect statutory or contractual confidentiality obligations to which Sanitas is subject with regard to the user’s personal data. By using or retrieving information or documents from Sanitas’s web pages, users explicitly agree to these terms of use.
Sanitas attaches great importance to data privacy. Customer data is treated in absolute confidence, and is processed in accordance with the applicable data privacy rules.
Data capture and use when visiting Sanitas web pages
Sanitas web pages may be visited without providing any personal data. However, Sanitas uses a web analysis service from Adobe and Google to analyse use of the sanitas.com website. Cookies (text files) stored on the internet user’s computer are used for this purpose. Sanitas uses this internal web analysis service to evaluate individual website usage. This data is then used to compile reports on website activities and deliver other services relating to website and Internet usage, e.g. for customised marketing (for example, retargeting). The user can control cookies using the browser settings. Browser options and usage guidelines can usually be found in the user manual or your browser’s help file. If the user rejects, blocks or disables cookies, this may limit the availability of services offered via the website and parts of the web pages may no longer function properly.
Sanitas collects and saves session and interaction data of website users and from online surveys. This information is used to improve the content and user friendliness of the web pages. Cookies can also be used for this purpose.

Social media buttons
The Sanitas web pages include functions (plug-ins) provided by third-party providers or social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc.). These plug-ins enable users to share content in the above social networks. When the user activates the buttons, the plug-ins automatically transmit data, including personal data, to the relevant third-party provider. If the user is logged in to the network of the respective third-party provider at the same time as visiting the website, the provider can assign the visit to the user’s network account. Sanitas has no influence on this process. The social networks’ data protection notices define the purpose and scope of the data collection process and how they further process and use personal data. The data protection notices also provide users with information on their rights and setting options with regard to the protection of privacy.
Links
Sanitas web pages provide links to the websites of other companies. Sanitas offers no guarantee for the information, products, services or other content contained in these websites. Sanitas does not check the content of these websites. Users using links from Sanitas’s web pages to other website do so entirely at their own risk.
Newsletter
If you provide us with information to receive the newsletter, you agree that your email address may be used to send the newsletter. This does not imply any further consent to the use of your email address.
The personal data you provide when registering for the newsletter will be stored. Sanitas may store this data itself or commission third parties to do so. If the data is stored by companies commissioned by Sanitas, they are subject to legal and contractual confidentiality and data protection obligations. Access to data stored by third parties on behalf of Sanitas is only granted to employees who are entrusted with the maintenance, monitoring and administration of the system.
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter or further information by email at any time. The data stored for the subscription to the newsletter will be deleted on cancellation of the newsletter. Data stored by us for other purposes will not be deleted.
You will not receive any advertising or other offers from Sanitas or third parties. If you would like to receive emails with marketing content or surveys by email, you can give us separate consent. Your email address will only be used to send our own information. We do not pass the address on to third parties for this purpose. The click behaviour with regard to hyperlinks in emails and websites is recorded anonymously; no personal user profiles can be created.
The live chat is recorded in a log file and saved on the Sanitas server located in Switzerland. You decide during a live chat if and, if so which, personal data you want to disclose. Depending on your question, Sanitas staff may need personal details to be able to advise you.
Sanitas uses the additional saved data in the log file (URL, IP address, page file name, date and time, web browser type and operating system, shopping cart data) - alongside the recorded conversation - to perform anonymous, statistical evaluations and for internal training of Sanitas staff.
The online appointment service allows interested parties to book a consultation with a Sanitas insurance advisor. The booking and consultation are free of charge and the appointment can be changed or cancelled at any time. Any data used to book the appointment and for the consultation will not be passed on to third parties and can only be accessed by Sanitas employees. The appointment can be cancelled at any time and no obligations arise from attending the consultation.
Data storage:
Data will be stored for 90 days and then deleted.
Further use of the data for subsequent contact:
The online appointment service is offered in cooperation with Calenso. User data is not passed on to Calenso.
Sanitas co-browsing takes place while you're communicating with Sanitas staff via the live chat or support hotline. It enables Sanitas support to view the content of the browser you currently have open. They do not have access to your device, any personal details on your device or the device camera. The browser content visible to Sanitas support staff during an active co-browsing session is highlighted by a green frame. This way, you can always see which browser content on your computer is visible to Sanitas support staff. The application process is blocked for Sanitas support staff; in other words you are the only person who can complete and send the application form. A co-browsing session can be closed at any time by you or the Sanitas support staff by clicking on the “Stop” button. The browser content visible to the Sanitas support staff is not saved.

Normal emails
Normal emails sent to Sanitas are not encrypted.
Sanitas expressly draws attention to the fact that using normal emails to send unencrypted data is neither secure nor a suitable way of sending personal or other confidential data.
If visitors send personal information by email without appropriate protection, they should be aware that unauthorised third parties could access this information and thus gather, use or even falsify data without their consent. Further, under certain circumstances personal data sent by email may be transmitted via a provider abroad, even though the sender and receiver are located in Switzerland. You should therefore take account of the fact that your personal data could also be transferred to a country with less stringent data protection standards than Switzerland.
If, despite this, someone contacts Sanitas or makes enquiries by unencrypted email, Sanitas will assume that the customer explicitly desires this form of communication. By contacting Sanitas or making enquiries by unencrypted email, customers consent to Sanitas also replying or providing the information requested by unencrypted email.
Video call consultation
In the course of the Sanitas video consultation, you work through pdf documents with your Sanitas insurance advisor in the same browser tab.
