Information on premiums in 2024

Here you’ll find the latest information on our insurance premiums. We’re happy to help if you have any questions on your individual premium situation.

How are premiums changing in 2024?

Premium adjustments will be required in 2024. These will vary by region and product, depending on the cost of claims within each premium region. There are good reasons why health insurance premiums increase year on year, such as medical advances involving expensive treatments, increasing life expectancy as well as the extension of benefits under basic insurance. In 2024, the corresponding costs and therefore the premium adjustments are generally somewhat higher than in recent years.

Optimising your insurance together

Sanitas also has to increase its premiums in 2024. At an average of 7.9% of the monthly premium for basic insurance, the increase is 1% below the average Swiss-wide increase of 8.7%.

Basic insurance: age and place of residence influence claims costs

Has your basic insurance premium gone up more than the general trend this year? In addition to the premium adjustments, this is either due to your age or where you live because the cost of claims can vary greatly from one region to the next. Health costs tend to be higher in urban areas than in the countryside and higher in French-speaking Switzerland than in German-speaking Switzerland. Supply also influences demand: the more doctors, hospitals and therapists there are offering services in a region, the higher the healthcare costs will be. The following illustrations show which factors influence your basic insurance premium:

Premium region

Your health insurance premium is influenced, among other things, by the premium region in which you live. The Federal Department of Home Affairs (EDI) defines which municipality belongs to which premium region.

Insurance model

With an alternative insurance model for your basic insurance, you benefit from discounts and a central point of contact for health queries – for example your long-standing family doctor or the telemedicine centre.

Elective deductible

By choosing a higher deductible, you can save money on premiums. However, you also bear a greater financial risk in case of illness. A deductible of CHF 0 is available for children up to 18 years of age.

Discounts for alternative insurance models

All the basic insurance models offer the same benefits. By choosing insurance, you can easily decide who you want to contact first in case of health queries. The greater the cost savings the model achieves by optimising treatment pathways, the higher the premium discount will be compared with the standard insurance model:

  • Medbase MultiAccess: Medbase network of experts as your first point of contact and a discount of between 12% and 18%
  • NetMed: First point of contact in a practice from a medical network and a discount of between 7% and 18%
  • CareMed: Initial consultation with your family doctor and a discount of between 7% and 10%
  • CallMed: Flexible treatment plan after an initial telemedicine consultation and a discount of between 7% and 14%
  • Compact One: Binding treatment plan after an initial telemedicine consultation and a discount of between 9% and 27%
