Health coaching

Obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and lipid metabolic disorders significantly impair quality of life. Even the most minor adjustment to your lifestyle can have a huge impact on your health. Your personal coach is on hand to help as part of a free health coaching programme.

An unhealthy diet and lack of exercise over long periods can lead to obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes or a metabolic disorder. If you suffer from more than one of these factors, it’s commonly known as metabolic syndrome. If left untreated, you are three times more likely to suffer a stroke or heart attack.

Your health can be improved dramatically by eating a healthy diet and getting more exercise. Weight loss of between 5% and 10% can have a very positive impact on your health. Your quality of life improves and you feel better.

Facts and figures 

The number of people who are overweight or suffering or from obesity has increased rapidly in Switzerland in the last few years. Today, 50% of men and 32% of women are classed as overweight.1

You’re classed as overweight if you have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 kg/m and above, and obese if you have a BMI of over 30 kg/m2.

How does health coaching work? 

  1. Sign up for health coaching. 
  2. We contact you to clarify your requirements.
  3. Keep a record of what you eat for four days. This record will serve as the basis for the coaching.
  4. Your personal health coach will contact you to arrange your first consultation. You’ll discuss what you want to achieve and set some initial, achievable goals.
  5. Once a month your coach will call you to discuss your progress and give you tips and advice on staying motivated.
  6. On average, coaching lasts six months. It is concluded with a meeting to discuss what progress has been made and to answer any questions you may still have.

Who can take part? 

This health programme is available free of charge to all Sanitas customers who hold semiprivate or private hospital insurance or have taken out a supplementary outpatient insurance plan in addition to basic insurance.

Sanitas health coaches

Sanitas has a team of professional health coaches with a medical background. Your personal health coach will support you with a wealth of experience and empathy throughout your coaching. You’ll stay in regular contact with them. Your coach will motivate you and accompany you on every step of the journey.

Important: Sanitas health coaches are bound by professional confidentiality and the applicable data privacy rules. Any information you provide during your time on the programme will only be collected and used by the coaching programme. Sanitas health coaching is intended to complement any treatment prescribed by a doctor or medical treatment, not replace it.

Digital support: Oviva app

Use the Oviva app to simplify communication with your health coach:

  • You use the Oviva app to take and save photos of what you eat and drink.
  • Your coach can go to the app any time to view your photos and comments.
  • You can also connect your activity tracker, e.g. Fitbit or Apple Health, to the app.
  • Use of the app is voluntary and free of charge.
