The Swiss parliament decided to remedy disparities between the premiums charged for mandatory basic insurance in different cantons. Determined by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH/BAG), the corrective scheme has been running since 2015 and is due to end in 2017. Health insurance companies are responsible for implementing these corrections.
No premium surcharge will be levied among insureds in 2017. However, insureds in some cantons will receive a premium credit. Your place of residence on 1 January 2017 applies for the purpose of the correction.
From 1 January 1996 to 31 December 2013 there were disparities between the premiums charged for mandatory basic insurance and the costs of medical claims in different cantons. On 21 March 2014, the Swiss parliament decided to take steps to remedy these disparities. The corrective scheme will run from 2015 to 2017.
Reimbursement will be funded in equal parts by the Swiss government, health insurance companies and insured persons resident in cantons whose premiums were too low between 1996 and 2013. Sanitas is therefore legally bound, along with other health insurance companies, to implement these premium corrections.
