core value at Sanitas
Corporate social responsibility
It’s only natural that Sanitas is committed to sustainability and climate protection.
Our contribution to achieving the 17 goals
Our corporate social responsibility programme makes an active contribution towards sustainable healthcare – for our customers, our employees and the environment. Our efforts are based on the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Our aims as an employer
We value diversity and are committed to a modern, health-promoting working environment in which our employees can contribute their strengths and develop their skills.
In order to meet our requirements as a responsible and attractive employer, we have identified three key areas of action to focus on: Employee health, training and further education and equal opportunities.
-
Employee health
As an employer we want to work with our employees to make an active contribution towards sustainable healthcare. Under the slogan “Healthy together” and within the framework of workplace health management, we are committed to a health-promoting working environment and maintaining a balance between professional and personal needs. In doing so, we adopt a holistic approach that takes prevention, early detection, absence and case management as well as corporate and management culture into account.
-
Training and further education
The ability to adapt and continuous learning are indispensable in a world of constant change and rapid technological development. The training and further education of our employees is therefore of great importance. By training our employees, giving them further education opportunities, and maintaining their employability, we are helping to combat the shortage of skilled labour and meet the professional and personal needs of our employees. In order to address the varying educational needs of our employees, we offer a diverse range of collaborative and digital forms of learning as well as self-learning materials that encourage the exchange of know-how and experience amongst our employees and enable remote learning.
-
Equal opportunities
Equal opportunities is a Sanitas principle and an integral part of the Code of Conduct. In addition to the principles of fair pay and equal opportunities in career development, we are committed to promoting a successful work-life balance. Important tools here include our annual working time model and our working from home regulations that offer our employees a high degree of flexibility and help to make work and family life more compatible.

Our approach to the environment and resources
Climate change poses risks to human health, with consequences such as the additional burden it would create for healthcare systems worldwide. As a partner of the Swiss Climate Foundation, Sanitas has been making a contribution to climate and environmental protection in Switzerland for many years. We are also working on gradually reducing our environmental footprint by systematically reducing our emissions and resource consumption.
-
Less office space and energy-efficient buildings
An important factor in reducing our emissions is having an energy-efficient infrastructure, both at our own locations and in rented properties. As part of our modernisation strategy, we have significantly reduced our office space and made it more energy-efficient in recent years, which has had a noticeable impact on our energy consumption.
-
Sustainable investments
It is when making investments that Sanitas has the greatest leverage to make a contribution to sustainability. We therefore consciously invest our assets sustainably and take environmental, social and governance aspects into account in addition to our financial returns. We also make targeted investments in infrastructure facilities that drive the energy transition, for example solar plants and wind farms. We regularly have the carbon footprint of our investment portfolio checked by external experts.
-
Sustainable IT systems
In line with our strategic ambition to be “No. 1 for convenience” for our customers, we are continuously digitalising our business processes. We pay attention to the energy efficiency of our IT systems and processes. For example, we are increasingly migrating applications and services to the cloud and using modern, energy-efficient data centres from major cloud providers. When it comes to hardware, we focus both on procurement and on making sure that our equipment has the longest possible life cycle.
-
Reduction of our paper consumption
As a service provider, Sanitas has a relatively low overall resource intensity. Paper consumption plays a particularly important role in terms of savings potential. This is mainly due to the mailing of documents to our more than 900,000 customers. Thanks to our Sanitas Portal, these administrative matters can be handled digitally, thus making an important contribution to greater resource efficiency.
