Fast metabolic type
Your body burns energy quickly – the key is to keep it constant.
You can usually eat what you want – and still feel good. Your body processes food efficiently and supplies energy quickly. The fast metabolism type is characterised by a high basal metabolic rate, making weight fluctuations less common.
“31% of Swiss people have a fast metabolism.”
31% of Swiss people identify with this type, making it the largest group. Notably, this type is significantly more common in the youngest age group (18-29 years) than in middle-aged groups.

Strengths
- High energy turnover: Your body burns calories efficiently and provides energy quickly.
- Flexibility: You tolerate different diets well and are less sensitive to individual foods.
- Stable performance: With the right diet, you remain physically and mentally efficient.
-
Challenges
- Underestimated quality: Because many things work for you, the importance of nutrient quality is often underestimated.
- Energy fluctuations possible: Fast sugars can also cause short-term peaks and crashes.
- Regeneration at risk: A consistently high energy turnover can strain the body if recovery is too short.
-
Tips
- Stable energy: Even if you can burn a lot of calories, opt for complex carbohydrates (whole grains, legumes) instead of sugar to keep your energy levels steady.
- Regeneration counts: Your body is running at full capacity – plan conscious breaks and make sure you get enough sleep so your metabolism doesn’t burn out.
- Nutrient over quantity: Pay attention to the quality of your food. Many micronutrients (e.g. magnesium, zinc) can optimally support your fast metabolism.
Who belongs to the fast metabolic type?
The fast metabolic type is particularly common among men and occurs more often in younger age groups. At the same time, the data shows that only about half consciously pay attention to how nutrition affects their energy levels.

What fast metabolic types measure their bodies on
People with a fast metabolism are less focused on body weight than other types. Instead, energy levels, sleep and feelings of hunger play an important role in assessing whether their metabolism is balanced.

Why exercise supports your metabolism
Movement is a key component of a healthy metabolism: It supports energy metabolism, promotes blood circulation and helps build muscle mass – an important factor for the basal metabolic rate. Especially for fast metabolic types, regular physical activity helps to use energy in a targeted manner, maintain performance and keep the body balanced in the long term.
