Tiers garant is a system of reimbursement used in the health sector. Patients pay the bills issued by the doctor or another healthcare provider themselves and send the reclaim vouchers to their health insurer. The health insurer checks the invoice and refunds the amount minus the patient’s cost share.
How is it different to the Tiers payant system?
With the Tiers payant system, the doctor or another healthcare provider settles bills directly with the health insurer. The health insurer in turn collects any cost share due from the insured.
