Tiers garant system (third-party guarantor system) – bills sent to the patient

With the Tiers garant third-party guarantor system, the patient pays the medical bill themselves and then sends it to their health insurer for reimbursement.

What ist tiers garant?

Tiers garant is a system of reimbursement used in the health sector. Patients pay the bills issued by the doctor or another healthcare provider themselves and send the reclaim vouchers to their health insurer. The health insurer checks the invoice and refunds the amount minus the patient’s cost share.

How is it different to the Tiers payant system?

With the Tiers payant system, the doctor or another healthcare provider settles bills directly with the health insurer. The health insurer in turn collects any cost share due from the insured.

You can send in your reclaim vouchers quickly and easily using the Sanitas Portal app: take a photo of the reclaim voucher, send it off – that’s it! You can sign up for the Sanitas Portal app here.
