Federal Office of Public Health – keeping Switzerland healthy
The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) supervises all the health insurance companies. It reviews and approves the premiums and represents Switzerland in health topics vis-à-vis international organisations and countries.
Definition of FOPH
The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) is part of the Federal Office of Home Affairs. It is responsible for the national healthcare policy and – in cooperation with the cantons – for promoting the health of the Swiss population.
What are the tasks of the Federal Office of Public Health?
The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) supervises the Swiss health insurance companies and their finances. To this end, health insurance companies have to submit their annual accounts, annual reports, budgets and premiums for the following year to the FOPH for approval.
The Federal Office of Public Health also represents Switzerland in health matters vis-à-vis international organisations and other countries.
