Basic is our standard model for basic insurance with free choice of doctors. You can always choose who you contact when you need medical advice. You can visit your family doctor or go directly to a specialist without a referral. And you can also get free telemedical advice from Medgate at any time.

Step by step: how Basic works

  1. You make an appointment with a doctor of your choice or go directly to a specialist.
  2. If you want to clarify whether you need to see a doctor, you can get free medical advice from Medgate at any time.
  3. If you need to see a doctor, your doctor or specialist will examine you and discuss any treatment needed.
  4. The doctor will either provide the treatment, prescribe medicines or refer you for an examination.
  5. You can choose whether to follow the recommendation or opt for a different course of treatment.

Key benefits of basic insurance

Anyone who is resident in Switzerland is obliged by law to have basic health insurance in order to ensure basic medical care for all. All health insurers cover the same benefits under basic insurance.

Benefits are granted only in accordance with the Swiss Federal Health Insurance Act (KVG/LAMal) and the corresponding ordinances, and the general terms of insurance and applicable supplementary terms issued by Sanitas.

Medgate is the leading telemedicine provider in Switzerland. If you have the Basic plan for your basic health insurance, Medgate is an additional service that you can use free of charge, for example, if you’re not sure whether you need to see a doctor.

The Sanitas Medgate app makes it really easy toget medical advice whenever you need it:

  • Get medical advice: Enter yoursymptoms and get an immediaterecommendation either for ateleconsultation or to go to your familydoctor.
  • Make an appointment: choose a dateand time up to 48 hours in advance
  • Phone call or video consultation:contact your Medgate doctor by phoneor video link
  • Secure connection: send photos,videos or voice messages to Medgatein encrypted form
  • Choose your favourite doctor: set yourfavourite doctor and select for furthertreatments

Medgate telemedical advice is available free ofcharge. Please note that you may be charged forcalling the Medgate hotline depending on yourtelecommunications provider.
