Step by step: How Medbase MultiAccess works

  1. At the start you choose a coordinating Medbase medical centre near you.
  2. You can always choose who to contact in case of medical queries: a Medbase medical centre, a Medbase pharmacy or the telemedicine centre.
  3. Your contact is responsible for the initial medical consultation. You devise a treatment plan together. The treatment plan is binding.
  4. Your contact ensures that your coordinating medical centre is informed.
  5. Your medical centre coordinates any further treatment and provides support throughout the process.

Key benefits of basic insurance

Anyone who is resident in Switzerland is obliged by law to have basic health insurance in order to ensure basic medical care for all. All health insurers cover the same benefits under basic insurance.

For example

  • Treatment with a doctor or specialist throughout Switzerland
  • Hospital treatment in the general ward of your canton of residence
  • Cost share towards emergency treatment worldwide
  • Medicines, laboratory tests or medical aids

Overview of benefits

The amounts listed are for maximum benefits and, unless specified otherwise, are valid for each calendar year. Benefits are granted only in accordance with the Swiss Federal Health Insurance Act (KVG/LAMal) and the corresponding ordinances, and the general terms of insurance and applicable supplementary terms issued by Sanitas.

Medbase medical centre

Medbase is a holistic health partner with a comprehensive, first-class medical and therapeutic offering. As a Medbase MultiAccess customer, you choose a Medbase medical centre that meets your needs. If necessary, this medical centre coordinates your treatment and provides support throughout the process. You always have three points of contact for medical queries:

All the locations listed in our doctor and practice search as coordinating medical centres offer family medicine.

Telemedicine centre*

You can get telemedical advice around the clock from the medical hotline. This is helpful, for example, if you’re not sure whether you need to see a doctor or not. Or if you have a medical query in the middle of the night.

An important feature of Medbase MultiAccess: a complete telemedical consultation is subject to charge and is billed under basic insurance in the same way as a doctor’s visit. In other words, you cover the costs until you’ve reached your deductible. A “complete” consultation means that the doctor you are consulting does not refer you to a specialist.

Good to know: telemedical consultations cost less on average than a visit to the doctor. Depending on the intensity and type (e.g. an emergency) of the telemedicine consultation, you can expect to pay between CHF 30 and CHF 70.

Medbase pharmacies

With Medbase MultiAccess, you can contact any Medbase pharmacy if you have a medical query. The pharmacists clarify your requirements and decide what to do next. They will consult a doctor if necessary. A key benefit of this model is that you can take advantage of a range of additional features directly in the pharmacies. For example, you can get a second opinion for minor illnesses or, if necessary, consult a doctor directly on the phone from the pharmacy. In some cases, these additional benefits in pharmacies offer a real alternative to going to the doctor.

Exceptions

You can go directly to any suitable doctor in the following cases:

  • Emergencies (notify your coordinating medical centre within 10 days)
  • Gynaecological treatment (including maternity examinations)
  • Dental treatment
  • Paediatric treatment (including vaccinations) for children up to age 6
  • For paediatric treatment from age 6 and for ophthalmic treatment, you can contact any approved paediatrician or ophthalmologist in Switzerland.
